Inspired by the Race to Space, the Astro is a unique square-cased automatic watch with sapphire crystal, exhibition caseback and dual-finished case.

The Stellar, deep blue and flashed with orange accents, is inspired by the post Apollo space endeavour to create a joint orbiting scientific project, the International Space Station, between multiple nations. Facilitating advancements in our understanding of how the world works, science, engineering and even sociology. The honeycomb textured upper dial is also a subtle reference to the pentagonal tunnel down which Dr. David Bowman walks down in Stanley Kubrick's inimitable film “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

The Devil's in the detail

The new age of space travel, with the STS Space Shuttle program and Soyuz rockets, is captured here in deep blue.

A honeycomb textured upper dial meets a polished steel ring, leading down over the blue chamfer featuring Roman numerals printed in white, with one highlighted XI numeral in orange. The minute track chapter ring is presented in contrasting white with blue printing, and the multi-angled dial features applied steel batons, matching skeleton hands and vivid orange running hand with white tip and orbital counterweight. Each hand is filled with a luminous compound to match the double-dot reference point at 12 o’clock.

THE RACE TO SPACE

Through the ages we, as onlookers, have watched with palpable excitement as pioneers break through the barriers of expectation and blaze, unshackled, towards unprecedented human achievement. In the case of the Space Race, most watching were not local to the epicentres of cosmic engineering, only able to see these historical moments through the medium of newspapers and live television.

From watching news broadcasts announcing the success of Sputnik 1, Yuri Gagarin’s orbit, the Apollo 11 moon landings, Space Shuttle Challenger and Columbia disasters and onwards, through the modern era to Space-X launching reusable spacecraft and Felix Baumgartner throwing himself out of a balloon at the edge of our atmosphere - we’re all glued to screens to witness these moments for ourselves.

Unboxing was a wow. Awesome presentation, product, design, quality and price.

A perfectly designed watch, so much passion and love has gone into designing it. So much detail and great design elements capturing the essence of space travel.

Great watch, great price!

LUGLESS DESIGN

The Astro's case is not a square, but a squircle - a mathematical quirk in which every side of our “square” watch is subtly curved - a squared circle - with inspiration found in an unlikely place.

The case of the Astro features a lugless design, measuring 38x38mm with recessed strap mounts hidden within the case. Keeping things surprisingly thin, the case features a tri-texture finish and a modest 10.65mm thickness.
