The caseback of the Rescue features a chapter ring with the proverb coined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt: “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor”.

Luckily for most who find they’ve landed short on the judgement, skill or just plain luck required to make a successful voyage, there are people who put their own lives on the line to venture out into the conditions that caused such distress, and recover unlucky folk to safe harbour. It is those people to whom the Rescue pays homage.

The Devil's in the detail

Bright orange, the international colour of emergency, adorns much of this dial, but a central section made up of bright white and off-white stripes, known in heraldry as ‘bendy’, brings balance. We see diagonal stripes on vehicles and equipment used in the emergency services, and we love the textural impact it has here on the Rescue dial.

The luminous hour dots are surrounded by an orange hairline, boosting clarity from the chalky white surface. On the outer edge of the dial, a radially brushed ring with dark blue printed minute marks sits, gleaming and metallic, adding a machine-like rawness. Finally, the rotating chapter ring, solid orange with white printed numerals and outer ring, and a big dot of luminous compound at 12 o’clock for easy time referencing. It’s bright, bold and beautiful.

EMINENTLY WEARABLE

The case size of the Timer is a bold yet eminently wearable 42mm at bezel and, despite the additional complication of an internal mechanism for the chapter ring, remains a surprisingly slender 12mm, with a 22mm strap width.We’ve retained the strong case design from the original Solent, bespoke and aggressive.

The grippy crown also remains, but now there are two of them. Double-sided anti-reflective coating is standard on our watches now, but is improved with additional coatings to suppress more reflections and boost clarity. It all adds up to a watch that feels familiar, yet intrinsically new.
